When Systems Take Flight

When the birds hatched, my role changed.
At first, I watched closely. They were small, featherless, and completely dependent on the nest around them. But over time, I saw them grow stronger. They lifted their heads. They found their balance. They became aware of my presence without being disrupted by it.
That is what strong systems do.
They create enough structure for growth to happen and enough stability for people to keep moving when leadership steps back.
In schools, we often talk about leadership presence. But presence alone is not infrastructure. A leader can be visible every day and still have a fragile system. The real test is what continues when the leader is not in the room.
Intentional infrastructure is what allows schools to operate as a shared collective. It is the difference between compliance and ownership, between constant supervision and sustainable growth.
Flight was possible because the nest came first.
